Finally Finished Something

 

It's time to get stuff finished.  I've so very nearly finished the daisy field blanket for Luu to take to university.  I shall gloss over the fact that she has been at uni for the last year, and focus on the fact that her degree starts this year.  Yes.  A big tick for me, the daisy field blanket shall be finished for when Luu starts her degree.  And I shall show you, when it's done.

Now, back to the finished something.

I needed a small project to take with me when I went on holiday last month, and decided to make the Teddy Bear hat that Phoebe had asked for.  I made a Rabbit version of this hat for Luu earlier this year, but the only photos I have of that are too bad to see the light of day in this post. 

The pattern is a freebie I found on the internet sometime before Pinterest - so I'm afraid I have no idea where it came from to link to.  But, what I can now remember, is that it is an American pattern.  So, when I started this second version, it took a little while to realise this.  And the top of the hat looked like a mangled mess, before I remembered that the doubles in the pattern are actually my trebles - doh!  Start again, and it all went swimmingly.  Note to self - write on the top of the pattern - work in trebles.

The pattern that I used had no ear  directions on it.  I know, how inconvenient!  So, for both the Rabbit and the Teddy Bear version, I had to freestyle it.  For the Teddy Bear version, I repeated the first bit of the hat pattern for about three rows, folded the circle in half, and joined it together with a row of single crochet.  Ears stitched on, and there we have it - a Finally Finished Something! 

I've just had a quick look back through my archives, and I haven't introduced Luu's Daisy Field Blanket to you on my blog.  It's made plenty of appearances on my Instagram, and with bloggers in real life, but not here.  Ooh, you're in for a treat! And in that previous sentence, I see at least two further blog posts.  Meeting bloggers in real life, and Instagram.

blankets and chocolates

So, Saturday morning Phoebe told me that her Ted was cold, and she thought he needed a blanket. She asked me if I would crochet him one, and went for a rummage in my wool drawer, coming up with a ball that has shades of green and pink running through it. By the end of the day, Ted had his very own blanket, which, I'm told, he finds very cosy. I just did a basic granny square, going round and round, until it looked as though I was about to run out of wool, then finished off with a simple round of double crochet. So, one happy daughter, a cosy Ted and a day long project completed for the very reasonable price of just £1.29.



Sunday dawned all sun-shiny, and with special treats for Mother's day. I had cards, chocolates and a set of very gorgeous crochet hooks...



All rainbow colours, instead of the usual grey. Obviously they have been put straight to good use. I've started another blanket, the same as Ted's, but in a different colour, and hopefully,
quite a bit larger, as well. So, that would be two crochet blankets I have on the go, now.

dishcloths...

So, I've worked out how to crochet from a foundation chain. With some help from my Mom. And to practice, I've been crocheting... dishcloths!

Does this mean I have too much time on my hands? Well, no. I can actually do this while watching TV, so, quite productive, really... And, the dishcloths are really good. Even Luu commented that they are better than the others. And they're good practice projects - next up, decorative edgings - on my dishcloths...


And on the scrapbooking front, I've finished my Christmas layouts, here's just a couple of them.


I have some great pictures of my sister, brother and me in the mid 70's, just begging to be scrapped, but focus. Before I move onto them, I'm working on a mini-album of my December postings...

Family Tree and Grannies

Back so soon!

After posting yesterday, I inspired myself to get on with the crochet. And added another square to the growing pile of grannies. I do have more than in the photo, honest. So, tonight I will aim to do at least one more...


And, as I already had the camera out, thought I'd show you a sneak peek of my family tree. I started this at the crop last Saturday, it was part of a class done by Cleo Jarvis, from Bellaboo. It's still not quite finished - there's loads of cutting out to do. But I'm just about ready to put it all together, just some photos to add, and then hang it all from the tree.
